Hi-Fi Music Streaming Service, Tidal, Is Causing All The Buzz
Jay-Z debuted his revolutionary higher quality music and video streaming site on Monday, March 30th in New York. Stakeholders include other artists including Beyonce, Madonna, Jason Aldean, Kanye West, Jack White, Daft Punk, Calvin Harris, Arcade Fire, deadmau5, Nicki Minaj, and more. Each artist is offered a 3% stake in the company’s sales. Tidal offers users the option of a $9.99 monthly subscription for standard-definition sound quality or a $19.99 monthly subscription for high-def audio. No freemium. All in all, the artists’ total equity in Tidal comes out to a little under 50%.
Also, not to mention, Taylor Swift’s entire catalogue is available on this service after making a public stir by withdrawing her catalogue from popular streaming service, Spotify.
“People are not respecting the music, and devaluing what it really means… People really feel like music is free, but will pay $6 for water. You can drink water free out of the tap and it’s good water. But they’re okay paying for it. It’s just the mindset right now,” Jay-Z told Billboard in an interview.
